Free lunch of bad Orange

I’d highly recommend the free Orange broadband service, as long as you don’t mind long periods of downtime (three weeks in one instance, followed by a mere week of service before several days more downtime), poor quality of support, ridiculous response times to problems and the bitter aftertaste of being ‘had’ when you finally give in and cancel the service in order to find a less inept supplier. Should one expect ‘free’ to mean ‘crap’, even when it’s only free because you’re tied into a lengthy phone contract?
